Starbucks Trying To Brew Up Jobs In US
About Coffee[s] Staff
Starbucks has recently partnered up with a nonprofit organization that assists nearly 200 community development financial institutions to provide loans to small businesses and community groups.
So what does this mean to Starbucks patrons in the U.S.? Well, starting on November 1st, the next time you go to get your Venti brew, you’ll be asked if you would like to donate $5 to stimulate job growth through its “Jobs for USA” program. In turn, donors who give $5 or more will get a wristband with the word “Indivisible” written on it.
According to the Opportunity Finance Network, 100% of the donations will go toward loans for firms and organizations that can add jobs or stem job losses. Starbucks has already contributed approximately 5$ million to the “Jobs for USA” program.
In an interview with Reuters, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz said “Businesses and business leaders need to do more; we can’t wait for Washington,” and added that Americans deserve better leadership. Schultz referred to small business an engine for job growth that has stalled and said entrepreneurs must have access to credit so they can hire again.
It should also be noted that just three years ago Schultz closed some 600 U.S. Starbucks locations and had significant layoffs in order to turn the company around.
